ORIGIN Italy PERIOD 1950s AUTHOR Marcello FANTONI Marcello Fantoni, sculptor, medalist and ceramist, was born in Florence in 1915 and studied in his city at the Porta Romana Art Institute, student of, among others, Libero Andreotti, Bruno Innocenti, Gianni Vagnetti and Carlo Guerrini. After his years of training, starting from 1934, he worked in various ceramic laboratories and factories including the 'Cantagalli' in Florence, took on the role of artistic director of a small ceramic factory in Perugia and in 1936 opened his own workshop called 'Fantoni Ceramiche', in via Luigi Lanzi 2 in Florence, where it produces both serial furnishing ceramics and sculpture and artistic ceramics. In 1937 he presented some ceramics from his production at the VII National Crafts Exhibition in Florence, attracting public attention for his rustic-style works decorated with African and marine landscapes animated by stylized figures painted in enamel. Subsequently he opened a collaboration with the 'C.I.M.A.' and between the end of the 1930s and the early 1940s he created models for the Perugian factory 'La Salamandra'. The war years saw him as a partisan in the mountains and in the early post-war years he found employment at the 'Maioliche Deruta' factory. In the 1950s he restarted his own business in the premises at number 45 in via Lanzi, in Florence where he began to dedicate himself to the creation of large sculptures. A great experimenter of matter, he is an interpreter of different artistic currents from Twentieth Centuryism to Primitivism, from Cubism to Abstractionism up to the Informal and Minimalism of his latest works. Starting in 1970, in his studio, he founded the International School of Ceramic Art and dedicated himself to teaching and experimenting with high-temperature firing. In 2000, Florence dedicated a large anthological exhibition to him entitled 'Ceramics as Art, Marcello Fantoni ceramist and sculptor' set up at the Salone delle Regie Poste and in 2005 the Archaeological Museum of Fiesole dedicated an important solo exhibition to him entitled 'Marcello Fantoni, a beautiful shape with a beautiful color'. URSPRUNG Italien ZEITRAUM 50er Jahre AUTOR Marcello FANTONI Marcello Fantoni, Bildhauer, Medailleur und Keramiker, wurde 1915 in Florenz geboren und studierte in seiner Stadt am Kunstinstitut Porta Romana, unter anderem bei Libero Andreotti, Bruno Innocenti, Gianni Vagnetti und Carlo Guerrini. Nach seiner Ausbildung arbeitete er ab 1934 in verschiedenen Keramiklaboratorien und -fabriken, unter anderem bei "Cantagalli" in Florenz, übernahm die künstlerische Leitung einer kleinen Keramikfabrik in Perugia und eröffnete 1936 seine eigene Werkstatt "Fantoni Ceramiche" in der Via Luigi Lanzi 2 in Florenz, wo er sowohl serielle Einrichtungskeramik als auch Skulpturen und künstlerische Keramik herstellt. Im Jahr 1937 stellte er einige Keramiken aus seiner Produktion auf der VII. Nationalen Handwerksausstellung in Florenz aus und erregte die Aufmerksamkeit der Öffentlichkeit mit seinen Werken im rustikalen Stil, die mit afrikanischen und maritimen Landschaften verziert waren, die von stilisierten, in Emaille gemalten Figuren belebt wurden. Später begann er eine Zusammenarbeit mit dem C.I.M.A. und zwischen Ende der 1930er und Anfang der 1940er Jahre schuf er Modelle für die peruanische Fabrik La Salamandra". In den Kriegsjahren war er als Partisan in den Bergen und in den ersten Nachkriegsjahren fand er eine Anstellung in der Fabrik "Maioliche Deruta". In den 1950er Jahren nahm er sein eigenes Unternehmen in der Via Lanzi Nr. 45 in Florenz wieder auf und begann, sich der Schaffung großer Skulpturen zu widmen. Als großer Experimentator mit der Materie ist er ein Interpret verschiedener künstlerischer Strömungen, vom 20. Jahrhundert bis zum Primitivismus, vom Kubismus bis zum Abstraktionismus, bis hin zum Informel und Minimalismus seiner letzten Werke. Ab 1970 gründete er in seinem Atelier die International School of Ceramic Art und widmete sich der Lehre und dem Experimentieren mit Hochtemperaturbränden. Im Jahr 2000 widmete ihm Florenz eine große anthologische Ausstellung mit dem Titel "Keramik als Kunst, Marcello Fantoni Keramiker und Bildhauer" im Salone delle Regie Poste und 2005 widmete ihm das Archäologische Museum von Fiesole eine bedeutende Einzelausstellung mit dem Titel "Marcello Fantoni, eine schöne Form mit einer schönen Farbe".
